Gades set for blockbuster BBL15 as full fixture revealed
The Melbourne Renegades will stage three blockbuster home games at Marvel Stadium this summer, with the full BBL15 fixture confirmed today.
Already shaping as one of the season’s marquee match-ups, the action under the roof kicks off on New Year’s Day with a late afternoon clash against the Sydney Sixers.
Fans can expect fireworks with two of the world’s best T20 batters - Muhammad Rizwan and Babar Azam - go head-to-head in what looms as a must-watch clash.
Derby season will light up Melbourne in January, with the Renegades and Stars to meet twice in the space of a week. The first showdown is locked in for 4 January at the MCG, before the rivalry returns to Marvel Stadium on 10 January for a Saturday night showdown.
The Renegades and Stars have delivered some of the Big Bash’s fiercest battles in recent years, with this summer’s contests sure to add another highly anticipated chapter.
Attention will then turn to 15 January, when the Renegades host the Perth Scorchers.
The two sides will first meet in Perth just days earlier, setting up what’s sure to be a fiery return leg back at Marvel Stadium.
The Renegades got the better of the Scorchers twice last season - including a memorable home win and a stunning comeback in Perth where captain Will Sutherland produced a career-best knock to lead the side to victory after a dramatic top-order collapse.
With former Scorcher Jason Behrendorff now in red, the Marvel Stadium encounter promises to bring even more feeling to an already heated rivalry.
Scott Fitzgerald, General Manager Marvel Stadium, couldn't wait for the Jan-packed schedule.
“We’re excited to continue our partnership with the Melbourne Renegades as we welcome them back home this January for three blockbuster matches - kicking off a massive summer of Big Bash cricket!
"Marvel Stadium is a destination for Renegades and Big Bash fans, and this year’s line-up of matches including the New Year’s Day clash, the always-entertaining Melbourne Derby and the added spice of Behrendorff facing his old squad promises to deliver an atmosphere our venue is renowned for."
James Rosengarten, Melbourne Renegades General Manager, said the club was looking forward to delivering a huge summer of Big Bash for its fans.
“There’s nothing like a night of Big Bash at Marvel Stadium when the roof is closed, the Gades Arcade buzzing and our fans in full voice,” Rosengarten said.
“We’ve got a strong run of home games this January with New Year’s Day, the Melbourne Derby, and then a huge clash against the Scorchers. It’s shaping as our biggest summer yet and we can’t wait to see our members and fans turn Marvel Stadium red again.”
As announced on Monday, the Renegades will open their season with two home games in Geelong against the Brisbane Heat and Hobart Hurricanes at GMHBA Stadium.
"Geelong has become a key part of our summer, and we’re excited to kick off the season with two huge games against the last two BBL champions before shifting focus to three must-watch home games at Marvel Stadium in January."
The Renegades will also hit the road with trips to Hobart, Perth and Sydney before wrapping up the regular season with a Saturday evening clash against the Strikers at Adelaide Oval on 17 January.
Renegades membership packages are on sale now, with early bird pricing available until 1 September.
